Lighting

This picture here adopts low-key lighting. As well as back lighting to help produce silhouettes/shadows of the characters, the low-key lighting of this still means that specific features of the 2 characters in the centre of the still are actually distinguishable. This creates a more menacing aura around the 2 standing individuals, as if they were responsible for whatever may have happened.

This still here uses low-key lighting  Similarly to the first image, there is a sense of suspense shown by the colour scheme of the picture. Additionally with the light shining on the face of the woman, underlighting, has been employed in order to add to a more ominous feel to the scene.  The distinct enigma codes ringing about the viewer's mind indicates that there is a sense of dange; it constantly questions the scene.

The third image employs more low-key lighting. By doing this a dramatic contrast is produced from the itenary herself, adding to this idea of gloom and depression. Also with the equipment and its contrast via low-key lighting the only things actually visible in the poster coupled with the setting and the placement of the stuff, a sense of mystery is created as we as viewers are totally unaware of what exactly these things may be showing.

The man who fell to Earth

What do we learn about the character from the way he relates to his environment?

The character has an eerie presence which is relatable with the setting as the scenery also has gloomy effect. The way the character is presented provides numerous of enigma codes about what the character is going to do; whether he is going to be a danger to society. Same can be said about the environment as the setting also has a deserted outlook which may lead to some distinctive suspicions. However, there is some contrast as the way he tries to moves about indicates that there is no understanding of where he is.

What expectations do we have of the genre and narrative of the film?

This film can also link to the genre of drama and mystery as it contains multiple enigma codes which are also relatable to the sci-fiction genre. Also, this movie seems to be in the science fiction genre just judging from the opening scene because its abnormal for someone to fall to earth. I think that the movie will include a femenine element as it is a woman who I believe would help Bowie  return to his original place.

Mise-en-scene

The mise-en-scene on this still image is captivating as it provides numerous of connotations about what the picture's true meaning is. The use of a skull indicates that something tragic may have happened at the time period. I say time period because from what I can see, this image may have been made centuries ago. The objects inside the still image are hardly used in this generation. The overall imge may also give a hint as it is a painting; paintings were common in the previous centuries. Also the colour scheme used in this still image also represents the atmosphere that the artist wants to present; the gloomy atmosphere consuming the audiences' attention.

The expressions shown on the people's faces indicates that there is a sense of anger. The picture is dominated with a lack of culture diversity which suggests that this is an only white movement. The use of a flags indicates that something tragic may have happened at the time period. I say time period because from what I can see, this image may have been made recently with a camera. Their facial expressions are very concerning as they have this sinister look which implies that there is something very tragic that is about to happen. They all seem to be stoo

Film Language Task

Blade Runner

From what I can see from the poster, I can infer that the movie has a scientific genre which is appealing to their target audience. I know this because of the props used in this poster. An advanced scientific gun is utilised to show the audience that it has a scientific effect which is the overall message of the poster. Also I can infer that the lighting has a massive effect on the overall perspective of the poster. The light being shown on the main protagonist indicates that he is the hero of the movie and the woman, who is percieved as the villain, is being shown in a dark manner. The star of the movie, Harrison Ford, has been deliberately used to bring another field of audiences. The fact that this actor's name is used indicates that the movie wants to benefit from his ever-lasting popularity. The storyline for this movie, from what I can see on the poster, is about a hero who has to battle against an evil character. The cigarette that is being shown can indicate that the character has a well known presence for being infamous. The lack of face expressons can also indicate that she has a lack of remorse for her victims which is typical for a villain.

Scary Movie 2

I can infer that this movie has a hybrid of genres of both comedy and horror. I know this due to the iconography that the poster contains. Due to Buscombe's theory of iconography, the way the letter are shaped has a major effect on the overall poster; it has a overall decision of what genre it is. I also think that the storyline would be pivotal especially as it is a comedy film. Another indication that the movie would be a comedy film is the tagline. The fact that it states clearly that the movie is hilarious indicates that the movie has a clear ambition of the movie being humorous. I believe the target audience is mainly targeted towards the younger adults. The little messages on the shirts of the females have a seductive tone. These little meanings can be understood by a mature audience and I think that is where the target audience is.

Uzak

From what I can see from the poster, I can infer that the movie has a horror genre which is appealing to their target audience. I know this because of the mise-en-scene used in this poster. I'm Not Scared

From what I can see from the poster, I can infer that the movie has a adventure genre. I know this because of the mise-en-scene used in this poster. A darker touch to the poster is shown as it appeals to which is the overall message of the movie. The message of the poster is to show that the boy is about to embark on a new adventure. Also I can infer that the colours has a massive effect on the overall perspective of the poster. The light being shown on the main character indicates that he is the main perspective of the movie. The storyline for this movie, from what I can deduce, is about a person who has to find something that he has lost in a dangerous place.

Sin City

An gun is used to show the audience that it has a dramatic effect which is the overall message of the poster. Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest

There are multiple indications that the movie has a hybrid of genres of both adventure and action. This is because the iconography that the poster contains. Due to Buscombe's theory of iconography, the way the images are shown has an effect on the overall poster; it has a vital decision of what genre it is. The way the letters are shaped give the a poster an adventure-like look. Also, I believe that the storyline would be pivotal especially as it is an adventure film. The colour schemes on the poster indicates that the movie may not be suitable to a younger audience. These images can be understood by a mature audience and I think that is where the target audience is.

Bride and Prejudice

The tagline indicates that the film is a romantic comedy where the two actors in the centre of the poster are supposedly getting married.  I know this because in the background, celebration is evident with confetti and a crowd of people most likely directed at the bride and groom to be. Also, the temple in the background suggests that the film is set in India. The poster for 'Bride & Prejudice' presents the film as being a parody of 'Pride and Prejudice.' Also, the blue sky in the background of the poster conveys the idea that this film will be generally happy like the tagline suggests and not be contrasted/juxtaposed by anything whatsoever. With the film taking place in India, the target audience is most definitely going to be towards the Asian culture across all age groups due to its similarities with the target audience and the more comedic nature of the movie.

Million Dollar Baby

From what I can see from the poster, I can infer that the movie has a action genre. There isn't a clear indication of what the storyline would be in 'Million Dollar Baby'. From what can be seen from the poster, it's apparent that the central actor would be heavily involved in sports with the attire that she is wearing. There may be some difficulty throughout her career as she progresses, with  The dark shadows cast over the three actors suggest that the film would have a dramatic effect that would entice the viewer's mind. The darker tone makes the movie come out as suspenseful. People watching this film are likely to be adults with one indication of this  the shadows, perhaps connoting that the film will have a more darker and serious tone in the entirety of the film.  Also, the movie may be targeted towards a sport-based audience as people can relate to her ambitions.
