Editing Task

The transition shown in this clip is evident as there is a change in personnel. Both the main characters swap bodies inside this video and it becomes apparent with the blur when the impact happens. These transitions are useful as it allows people to understand the overall meaning and the concept of the video. Continuity editing is another aspect in editing that is apparent in this short film. The constant use of editing allows the audience to be immersed with the action. The way that the editing allowed the transition into other bodies to be efficient. As the characters face off against each other, there is a lot of straight cuts to continue the narrative smoothly, this follows on with the action and enigma codes of Barthes’s theory. The lighting throughout the whole video was interesting as the lighting reflect the atmosphere of a certain scene. It also represents the social class and the way of their living.  What enhances the pace of the editing is the when the character who represents England had to work back to where he belong. This shows the dedication shown and the appreciation of the audience is apparent when the pace of the editing becomes fast. This whole video tends to consist to have medium to long shot to get the needed visceral pleasure of the action occurring. As more clip pass by, the atmosphere is getting more intense which results in faster paced editing to fit the style and mood, which basically are straight cuts consciously.

The whole clip starts off with a slow pace of a normal football match; this is used to gain a sense of identification with the audience. There is a long shot used to capture the incident with the ball-boy and the clever use of blur with a zoom changing the shot to a medium shot. Then there was a scene in their beds when the switch becomes apparent. The clever use of close ups for both characters show the initial reaction of the characters changing bodies. This is the point where Todorov's theory of equilibrium is set, this is the disequilibrium. We see a steady cam shot tracking the person going to a local football match with his mother's car while the other person arrives at an international training session. This adds a sense of bewilderment as people can change into other people’s bodies.

During this part of the sequence, quick, fast paced music begins to build up. This is another action code as the audience are likely to believe something inspirational is going to happen. The audience sees the characters adjusting to their current situations and allowing the current predicaments not to inder their ambitions. This may have been intentionally used to inspire the audience on the characters progression in life as he is not ready to quit because of a setback which adds to the inspirational but persuasive nature of the companies actions.
